Please join us for our Annual Public Meeting on Sunday, March 1, 2020. We are excited to have our very own Maritza Soto presenting and sharing her methods for getting unstuck during the design process. Feel free to bring a WIP or UFO that you are struggling with or want design advice on. We will be discussing these in small groups. All are welcome and there is free street parking.

January 2020 Meeting
Our first meeting of 2020 was held on January 26. It was a very-well attended meeting with both familiar faces and new ones. New members should have received an email from the MQG with membership information.
The meeting started off with the new board members introducing themselves and talking about their responsibilities. Since it was the first meeting of the year, there was an abundance of business discussed as well as lots of information about what's in store for 2020.
Here are the highlights:
Charity:
--We're in the process of finishing up some quilts for 'Quilts for Kids'. We'll be working on these at the sew-in on February 15 at the Lexington Community Center. There will also be some upcoming guild collaboration on a raffle quilt which supports a scholarship fund for Gather Here's Sew Camp.
Challenges:
--There's a new challenge for anyone looking to finish some long-abandoned quilts. Sometimes all you need is a little help (and inspiration) from your quilty friends. More info will be coming soon.
--The new Lottery block was presented by Rachel. Click on the Challenge page for details.
Events:
--The next Public Meeting will be on March 1 at the Cambridge Public Library (449 Broadway) from 2pm to 4pm. Maritiza Soto will be presenting on the topic of “Resolving Design Issues: Making friends with the creative process and getting unstuck!” Bring your UFO’s and WIP’s.
--The next sew-in is on February 15 at the Lexington Community Center from 9:15 to 4:45.
--Retreat is happening on March 6, 7 and 8th! Members spoke about their favorite reasons for going to retreat, particularly the friendships, the fun, the inspiration from fellow members. An email was sent on January 22 with all the details and links.
At each meeting we'll be asking members if they've heard of any events/shows that may be of interest to our guild members. These events do not have to be just quilting related. Many of our members have multiple creative interests. For the knitters in the group, here's an event that sounds like a lot of fun (and shopping).
It's the 3rd annual Boston Farm & Fiber Festival held at the Boston Public Market on Sunday, February 9 from 10-5.

Past Events and Meeting Highlights
October 2019 Meeting
Once again, the wet weather didn't deter many from trekking to our monthly meeting. Our well-attended October meeting had a well stocked snack table to match. Who doesn't like to eat 5 different types of cakes in one afternoon?!
Retreats was a topic of conversation. The local October retreat was lovely, and has everyone thinking about the longer one planned for March. It sounds like many people are fully invested. How great is it when a group of people who all like to do something, like to do it together, too.
Inspiration was all around both during show and tell and during our second hour, during postcard production.
A few reminders:.
Be sure to secure your spot in the CMQG for 2020 by Nov 24th. Bring your check for annual dues ($60) to the November meeting or pay via Paypal (especially if you can make the Thanksgiving weekend meeting.)
Mark your calendar for the the holiday party- Tuesday, Dec 17 6-8. Festivities will include 1 round of yankee/ white elephant swap, 2 rounds of LRC and countless rounds of food, drink and cheer!
Check out the CMQG November Block of the Month- Grungy Smoosh! Bring any blocks you make to the Nov meeting.
Last Sew-In for 2019 in Lexington: Dec 7. A sign-up google sheet when out in a Nov 10th email.

September 2019 Meeting
With Cambridge Open Studios happening above, we gathered below in the cozy basement for our intimate September meeting. Many of the members that did attended shared their recent projects with lots of oohhs and aahhs from the group. A few favorite tools were shared, too! ;-)
Speaking of helpful devices, we saw a few tools in action during our second hour; thanks, Hildy, for the demonstration of the flying geese rulers!
Many are looking forward to the Oct 20 retreat at the Marriott Residence Inn in Cambridge. Don't forget to bring everything you need and maybe some extras for sharing.
We saw the Charity Challenge quilt top, and it didn't disappoint- rather, it took our breath away. Because we are a bit ahead of schedule, we are hoping to take measures to get some detailed quilting on it and let the Raven Nevermore be the exquisite quilt it wants to be!
A few reminders:
Bring a small bag of scraps to the October meeting. We will be represent-in at the meeting, and making some postcards (4X6) for the North Jersey swap. Cityscape/ important place to you is the theme. Maybe you can daydream about a design between now and then.
Our all day, October 20th Cambridge Sew-In still has ONE spot. Start packing those power cords and cutting tools!
It's time to nominate yourself for a board position for 2020. You will be glad you did it! Elections will be held during the first 2 weeks in November.
Be sure to bring your check for annual dues ($65) to the October meeting.
August 2019 Meeting
So long summer! Many of us feeling the changing season upon us, shared news of our summer experiences and our outlooks on the impeding gear change that happens in our neck of the woods. Hopefully, between meetings, sew-ins (Sept 14 & Oct 20) and other gatherings, we will all find time to connect with one another and with our craft.
As the images reflect, we had another great show and tell. If you haven't brought something in awhile, we would love to see what you are working. The project may or may not be finished, and maybe it's not even a quilt!
Many went home with loot from this meeting. Thank you screen printing workshop!
The Charity Challenge quilt is really coming together with so many blocks completed, and after our meeting, nicely trimmed down. Can't wait to see it start to come together at the next Lexington Sew-In. Big thanks to Jenn and Rebecca for all the coordination and brain power behind the pattern and block prep.
A few reminders:
Don't forget to pitching in by make a postcard (4X6) for the North Jersey swap. Cityscape/ important place to you is the theme. Email Laurie if you want to whip one up.
Our all day, October 20th Cambridge Sew-In still has a couple of spots.
Consider nominating yourself for a board position for 2020. We will need some volunteers to be wall buddies, too.
Be sure to bring your improv "lottery" blocks for charity, due at September meeting.
July 2019 Meeting
Another summer meeting showcased another wonderful array of completed projects. Look out UFOs with this group behind the sew machine!
The dedicated members in attendance rolled up their sleeves and got started on 2020 Charity Challenge.
Congrats to Laura for winning the flying geese lottery blocks! And thanks to Gwen for pitching our next improv block, due at September meeting.
As summer winds down and Fall plans start to come into focus, can you commit a little something extra along side your CMQG peeps? Many opportunities are coming up to get together in addition to our months guild meetings. Sign up for RI guild swap postcard or a charity quilt. Consider running for a board position this fall. Attend a sip and stitch. And don't forget about our all day, October 20th Cambridge Sew-In. There still is room to sign up. Sounds like the occasion might be a tradition in the making!

June Meeting
May MeetingAfter a bit of announcements- one being a reminder about the June 20th deadline for the MQG Charity Quilt design entries, we had lovely show-and-tell, which showed off many productive stitching hours. We rounded out this low key meeting with some chatting over hand work.

February Meeting
With 70+ in attendance, our public meeting Sunday, Feb 17, filled the
Cambridge Public Library auditorium with good energy.
We had three amazing panelists talk about their own quilting "origin" stories. Thanks to each of them for sharing their personal processes and journeys. And a special shout out to Virginia for facilitating. The hour went by so fast!
The TOP TWENTY take-aways from the the panel discussion:
20. We are all so lucky to have many active guilds in New England; quilter's favorite people are often quilters.
19. Winning a quilting completion can may one feel like a prom queen (or prom king, presumably.)
18. Building a stash of 1/3 yards can build variety, encouraging fabrics to be paired.
17. Long arm for others is the best quilting education- seeing the gamut of construction
16. Picking out a background color after the central theme is piece could be quite advantageous.
15. Long armers do sometimes sell their long arms.
14. Because we often quilt alone, finding a community is important- on instagram and/or a guild.
13. A messy studio may lead to serendipitous outcomes.
12. Publishers read blogs.
11. Virginia knows her way around an interview; I think she has had a little practice.
10. Quilts made to sell, don't sell.
9. Publishers are sometimes the one pitching the book idea.
8. A guild can be family.
7. It is possible for weird cats to be one's bread and butter.
6. Designing a teaching tool can lead to an award winning quilt.
5. Long arm for yourself only; there will be less tears and body aches.
4. Taxes are sobering especially when you know you're working so hard
3. Completing one quilt a year is good, especially if you are proud of your piece of art.
2. A little whiskey, a new design wall, and late night instagramming can be a game-changer.
1. Sometimes you're living through your once-in-a-lifetime moment and you don't even realize it.
