Meetings & Events
We hold our meetings and retreats in spaces that are accessible to all. Below is some information about the accessibility of the spaces where we meet in person. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any specific questions or needs related to accessing our meetings.
Monthly Meetings Our monthly meetings (last Sunday of the month) are being held either virtually or in-person. In-person gatherings are currently happening at St. James Episcopal Church in Porter Square, which is a wheelchair accessible space. Our virtual meetings are hosted on Zoom with closed captioning available during the meeting in order to keep meetings accessible to all.
CMQG also hosts additional informal meetings for members throughout the year, such as quilt challenges, work in progress (WIP) nights, and social sewing sessions, some in-person and some virtual. In the past, CMQG members have met monthly at Gather Here (1343 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA). The front entrance door of Gather Here is equipped with an automatic door opener (good for stroller users, too!). The restrooms are ADA compliant as well. Gather Here invested in a sit-down longarm quilting machine in December of 2019 to make freemotion quilting on Bernina's top of the line Q-series accessible for everyone. All of their sewing machines can be operated without the use of a foot pedal. And we can set up ironing stations at a height that is convenient to you. Service animals are welcome at Gather Here.
Public Meetings Approximately once per year we host a meeting at the Cambridge Public Library (Main branch, and this meeting is open to all visitors. We hope you will introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have about the guild.
All Cambridge Public Library facilities are wheelchair accessible and welcome service animals. Magnifiers and computer software are available for the vision-impaired.
Retreat Members are invited to join the guild for a weekend retreat once a year. This typically takes place in March/April within a two hour drive of Boston. A limited number of scholarships are available.
Our annual retreat currently takes place at the Barbara C. Harris conference center in Greenfield, NH. Many of the center's lodge rooms and cabins have been designed and furnished to be accessible. If you need an accessible room, please request upon making your CMQG retreat deposit.
Sew-Ins CMQG holds Sew-Ins at the Foundry in Cambridge.
Note: Masks are not currently required to attend CMQG events; however, we are aware that people's comfort levels with respect to COVID-19 exposure varies. You are most welcome to wear a mask and to reach out with any specific concerns or questions.
